Off Piste Development : Meribel
27 Feb-6 Mar 2021 (Sat-Sat) £ TBD
This course will be run by Marmalade Ski School, our Alpine partner in Les Trois Vallees. They will take advantage of their local knowledge to explore off piste in the Three Valleys. This week is perfect for skiers who are happy skiing off piste red and black terrain, variable snow conditions, icy slopes and bumps but are looking to gain mileage and the confidence to get further from the pistes and enjoy skiing slopes that are "demanding but doable".

If you have wider off-piste focused skis please bring them along. Backpacks with avalanche rescue equipment will be required every day. If you have your own equipment please bring it along, if not we will issue you with a backpack, shovel, probe and transceiver. The course will be a mix of guiding and coaching and conditions allowing we will be maximising your time off piste with an end of week goal to ski an extensive backcountry route outside the resort boundary.

Should weather conditions not allow for off piste skiing we will do technical skills development that will help improve your off-piste skiing. We will refresh and extend your knowledge of avalanche rescue equipment. When out in the mountains we will point out avalanche prone areas and give you some knowledge and understanding on how to read snow pack conditions to give you some knowledge of mountain craft.

This holiday is suitable for level 8 and higher skiers who would consider themselves off-piste Developers (or stronger) who confidently enjoy skiing off piste on steeper slopes (red-black) away from pistes.

Ski Area
Meribel, France is about two and a half hours from Geneva Airport and is at the heart of the Three Valleys, the worlds largest ski area. A scenic town popular with the British, Meribel offers a vast range of skiing for all levels. As it is well linked with its sister resorts of Courchevel and Val Thorens you will be able to ski new runs every day during your holiday, and never be bored with the endless terrain available.

Coaching
The coaching will comprise 5 all-day coaching sessions during the course. You will have a day off to free ski or we can add on a "bolt on" day depending on the groups desires. We don't have a fixed schedule as this course is very weather and condition dependent but will strive to get as much time in off piste terrain as possible but your safety is our first priority so we may be on piste but will search out more difficult terrain.

This holiday is suitable for level 8 and higher skiers who would consider themselves off-piste Developers (or stronger) who confidently enjoy skiing off piste on steeper slopes (red-black) away from pistes. You will have several weeks spent skiing off-piste terrain and have had training on the use of avalanche safety equipment. Skis confidently and enjoys powder, able to link turns with consistent speed and rhythm in good snow conditions without falling. Able to handle a variety of conditions including lightly crusted and wind affected snow. Possibly skied with guides and may have ski toured. Has the fitness to ski off piste all day and would be happy to skin uphill on easy gradients for up to an hour at a time and can get up unassisted after a fall in deep snow.

Group size will be typically six and no more than eight per coach. Our guest coach for this holiday is Derek Chandler who has over 20 seasons of skiing in Les Trois Vallees and knows the area extremely well.

Video review will be minimal as we will be focussing on getting mileage in but we will endeavour to obtain some footage and photographs of you skiing over the course of the week.
