Italy, All In 2015

All in good fun! January 2015 saw our second visit to the Brenta Dolomites, to the fabulous resorts of Madonna di Campiglio and Folgarida for our “Italy, All In” coaching holiday. The more we ski this area the more we grow to love it!

Season Opener, Meribel Dec 2014 So it turned out pretty good after all...

The beginning of the 2014-15 season will go down as one of the worst for a number of years. Despite good early snowfall in October and early November, temperatures across the Alps said stubbornly high in the six weeks leading up to the official opening dates of ski resorts across the major Alpine countries. This was a big concern for Inside Out Skiing as we got closer to our traditional Season Opener coaching holiday. Based in Meribel, this trip has been a great success over the last five years and we watched anxiously as the weather forecasts slowly turned to disappointment until a few days before the trip when the Meribel lift company confirmed that they were delaying the opening of the resort by one week. However, all was not lost as one of the great features of skiing in the Trois Vallees is the high altitude skiing above Val Thorens. The downside was the inevitability of the drive around the valley from Meribel to Val Thorens, but the upside was that at least we would have some skiing available. Little did we know when we confirmed our contingency plans just how well everything would turn out! Read More...

Pre-Season Tune-Up 2014 A great start to the winter

Blog cover photo
The Grand Motte glacier in Tignes once again provided the training ground for our 5th Pre-Season Tune-Up. This is a very early (first week of November) opportunity to get back to the Alps to work on your ski technique and help get set up for the winter.

Instructor FastTrack Meribel 2013

Instructor FastTrack UK 2013

We launched a new series of clinics last summer and they went very well and were fully booked. I am getting a lot of questions about the FastTrack programme for this coming year so thought I would try to explain the course in a bit more detail and outline all Professional Development courses at Inside Out.

What Clinic is right for Me?

WhichClinicForMe We run a range of clinics at The Snow Centre each with a different focus area and at broadly different ability levels. Across the different clinics we offer coaching suitable for virtually all levels of skier except for complete beginners. We are frequently asked what level one needs to be to participate and which clinic is “right for me”. This blog entry tries to answer that question.

Season Opener, Meribel Dec 2013 - Sun, sun and more sun!

The 2013 Season Opener in The Three Valleys was blessed with some great piste conditions and a week of virtually unbroken sunshine. Our most popular season opening trip saw three coaching groups make great progress with their skiing, enjoy the best of the Three Valleys and enjoy the two superb chalets that we used as our base for this trip.

Pre-Season Tune-Up 2013 - Can there be such a thing as too much snow?

Blog cover
Inside Out Skiing returned to Tignes for our fourth Pre-Season Tune-Up, slightly later in the year than previous trips. Before we arrived there had been a few decent snowfalls so the conditions on the glacier were excellent. Great snow depths and firm, grippy snow on all pistes.

Italian Food & Fun 2013

It's a standing joke on skiing holidays that we always want it to snow heavily overnight, and then blue sky and sun during the day. It's a joke because it never happens. Except for our 2013 "Italian Food & Fun" coaching holiday, where it did more or less just that! Continuing the amazing 2012/13 season, we had brilliant conditions with a lot of fresh snow at the beginning of the week, a couple of top-ups during the week and some really lovely bluebird days in between.

Season Opener, Meribel December 2012 - Massive, Massive Snow!

SO 2012 blog cover
Inside Out Skiing returned to Meribel for our Season Opener for the winter of 2012/13. It turned out to be one of the most memorable weeks, with more snow than most people can remember for this time of year. In fact, the snow conditions would have graced any time of the season, never mind the opening week! With a mix of sunny days and snowy days it turned out to be a wonderful week.

Performance Clinic - Advanced Building Blocks

pcb 2
The Performance Clinics for October focused on the core skiing skills, but developed with a unique twist in our Building Blocks series. Using the progression that new skiers go though as they learn to ski we develop the fundamental movement patterns and skills to increase personal performance.

Pre-Season Tune-Up 2012 - Loads of fresh snow and great early skiing

Tignes October 2012 20
Back to Tignes for the opening of our new winter season with the Pre-Season Tune-Up. It's wonderful to be back on a mountain, particularly when it's still only the beginning of October. Lots of new snow, plenty of weather and a great group of clients make this a wonderful start to the season.

Italian Food & Fun, San Cassiano, March 2012

Yet another wonderful week in the Dolomites, blessed with great weather and a terrific group all keen to improve their skiing and sample the very best that this part of Italy has to offer. We skied and enjoyed scenery and sampled restaurants and drank fine wines and visited Venice, all in a perfect week!

Japanese Powder Camp 2012

It's a long way, but it's worth it! Japan’s skiing offers deep, deep powder and endless fresh tracks in champagne-light snow. Out second visit to Niseko proved to be even better than the first!

Season Opener, Meribel, December 2011

Group 2 small
So it snowed. A lot. And just in time! A terrific way to open the season, with two groups of Inside Out Ski Club members making the most of some amazing pre-Christmas snow around the Trois Vallees.

GS training with Graham Bell, November 2011

IMG_5289 small
A week of Giant Slalom training in Cervinia, Italy with former British team downhill skier (and now presenter of “Ski Sunday”) Graham Bell. We had great weather, blue skis every day and very good snow high up. The rest of Europe seemed to have virtually no snow so we got pretty lucky.

Pre-Season Tune-Up 2011 - Ice, snow & perfect weather in Tignes

snowb 1
Our Pre-Season Tune-Up for 2011 was a great mix of challenging skiing, great skills development, fresh snow and great company! The beginning of the week gave us icy conditions, great for testing our skills! The end of the week gave us fresh snow and huge smiles!

Summer Ski Plus 2011 - Fresh snow and great fun in Tignes

Summer skiing - what’s that all about then? Well, it’s a terrific way to ski all year round in the mountains as well as sample the Alps when snow gives way to grass, and skiing has to share your time with a whole range of mountain activities. Our first Summer Ski Plus trip was amazing, and we can’t wait to get back for more.

Italian Food and Fun 2011 - The Dolomites: what a place, what a week!

Pasted Graphic 4
The Inside Out Ski Club has just returned from a week in the Italian Dolomites. It was our first trip there, but most certainly not our last. We were based in the pretty village of San Cassiano.

Japanese Powder Camp 2011 - Previewing Japan...

Pasted Graphic 6
This was our first visit to Japan, to sample the legendary powder snow of Hokkaido. Based in the resort of Niseko we had the most incredible two weeks of snow. It was definitely a trip of a lifetime, well, until next time at least.

Off-piste training - Meribel, January 2011

Some great off-piste training around the Trois Vallees with the Eagles Ski Club.

Season Opener 2010 - Great snow and Arctic temperatures in Meribel

Pasted Graphic 27
After a brilliant pre-season trip to Tignes for the Inside Out Ski Club we had high hopes that our first week of the main winter season would be equally good. We were not to be disappointed! A week of great snow and arctic temperatures.

GS training in Tignes 2010

Pasted Graphic
On a continual professional development course, (or as my wife likes to say a ski holiday) in Tignes and once again the weather has been brilliant. It snowed the first two days and we took advantage of the freshies during a warm up day on Sunday. Really quiet on the glacier and quite a few good athletes about so great for training.

Pre-Season Tune-Up 2010 - Fresh tracks in Tignes in September!

Fresh tracks in September - awesome
Our first pre-season trip to Tignes with the Inside Out Ski Club was a roaring success. Fresh tracks on 28 September, under blue skies and an empty mountain almost to ourselves. Is there a better way to get ready for the winter?

Season Opener 2009 - Inaugural trip to Solden

The inaugural coaching holiday for the Inside Out Ski Club took us to the Austrian resort of Solden. Wonderful conditions for our Season Opener, and a great bunch of skiers meant our first week couldn’t have been any better!

Advanced teaching assessment - Zermatt, December 2009

In Zermatt for a week on an advanced teaching assessment. Awesome snow, a tough course and bitterly cold temperatures mean a challenging week.

Pre-season slalom training, Tignes, October 2008

In Tignes once again for some pre-season slalom training. Thin snow on top of glacier ice mean challenging conditions, but it’s good to be challenged, isn’t it?
